Having spent almost $200 million in about an hour, making him the Minnesota version of Pacman Jones, Wild owner Craig Leipold realized he would have to take on one more expense.

I wonder if the Wild pitch looked something like that picture, just with wads of cash in each hand? It would be hard to say no...

Leipold just spent more money on free agents than any Minnesota team in history. Twice. And people are complaining? If this works out the way it should, we could possibly be talking about the Stanley Cup Champion Minnesota Wild at this time next year. Someone is finally making serious moves. We now have two of the best players in the NHL, and both of them have MN/WI connections. As a Wild fan, this couldn't be a better day.

Way to go Mr Liepold!!! I applaud you and your committment to MN Hockey! You should be sitting in your office screaming, you deserve that! Great hires with Fletcher and the entire staff!! Thank you is not enough for bringing the hopes of a Stanley Cup to MN, where it belongs. I will be attending more games than ever this year and years to come! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Leipold wants a winning hockey team were as, Pohlad wants a winning banking team.

Leipold is a liar and has no loyalty whatsoever. Has anyone noticed that the Nashville franchise has thrived once he was gone. He will salary dump and dismantle the franchise the first time he needs a couple of bucks.

it is nice that in hockey, being in Minnesota is a benefit, unlike basketball.

The Wild likely will NOT win a Stanley Cup THIS YEAR. They still aren't deep enough. HOWEVER, they don't have much more work to do to make it over the hump now. This is now an elite team. The Wild are guaranteed to make the playoffs this year, no question. In fact, I am willing to say they are guaranteed to make it into the 2nd round. They won't go all the way in 2012, but 2013 is looking highly likely.

BTW, something like this would never happen in MLB or the NFL. It just wouldn't. I still hate pro sports in general, but of all the sports, I think hockey is the most exciting to watch...and their CBA is clearly to the benefit of all the teams. If this was MLB there is absolutely no chance either of these guys would have ended up somewhere other than New York.
