Absurd. He's an old athlete for the sport and will be lucky on the world stage to get one or two. Arrogant.

This guy is my hero. When he makes a mistake he admits it and makes a humble apology. Its so much classier than the junkies who dope and deny it after there is overwhelming proof (Clemens, Armstrong,...). Looks to me like he dropped an event he is very good at which allows a newcomer to participate. I hope my children turn out this good. It looks to be a great Olympics =)

It's doesn't seem arrogant to drop an event and allow another swimmer to step up -- I think Ricky Berens would agree. And at this level of competition, a little arrogance is necessary to keep the winning edge.

"Absurd. He's an old athlete for the sport and will be lucky on the world stage to get one or two. Arrogant" 2 things; 1) Most anyone would consider winning 1 or 2 medals at any Olympic games the acheivement of a lifetime. 2) You can only call it arrogance if you can't back it up. If anyone can Phelps can, I predict he gets at least 5 golds. The only real question marks are the 2 and 4 IM.
