Burton, Perkins will split closer duties

The two will split the closer job until Matt Capps returns.

Willingham is such a deadpan interview! I love it when the talking heads try to get him to say something exciting. He is just "Mr. Cool" all the time. Good sports cliches, with nothing to write home about. Way to go Josh! Keep those writers on their toes.

Ok, we have our two best relievers being put in the best position to succeed but as soon as the 3rd or 4th best reliever comes back it will be business as usual. Seriously, if two lefties are due up in the 8th then Perkins should be pitching. If they are rithties or the bottom of the order then it should be Capps or Burton with Perkins closing. Stop giving so much significance to the 9th inning and just go with percentages. As Perkins said, the 8th inning guy often has more pressure than the 9th. Go with matchups. Also, why not let thses guys go two innings if they are throwing well?
