Delta tests turnstile to automate boarding

The machines allow fliers to scan boarding passes at the gate; if implemented, they could make it possible to bypass all interaction with airline employees.

Will it prevent people from getting onto the wrong plane? Don't say it doesn't happen, because I know someone who did get onto the wrong plane on an international flight no less.

If they can eliminate the crowding and jockeying before boarding with the turnstiles, I'm all for it. If they can also enforce the rules about the size of carry on luggage, that would be spectacular. OK, I ask for too much, I know - but you gotta dream ...

Other than pilots, avoidance of DL employees would be great! Not as great as avoiding the TSA employees, but still good!

It probably can't be any worse than it is now - once was sitting in adjoining seating areas between 2 gates because there were so many people and mistakenly got on the wrong gate/plane to Detroit instead of Minneapolis - so the boarding agent didn't look very closely at my boarding pass. There was someone in my supposed seat on the wrong plane - otherwise I woudn't have known. Sounds like a sit-com...

Three times I've been on flights with people who didn't know they were on the wrong flight until the landing announcement. So how much worse can it be with automation?

We all use self service when we order something on the Web or make a subscription address change -- and even when we get soda at a fast food restaraunt. It isn't the future, it is the present.
