Patrick Reusse: Brain trust got lost on 'Twins way'

You can date the current pitching debacle back to the day someone decided trading Matt Garza would be a good idea.

You are forgetting the Ortiz blunder and the Hardy blunder - hurt to much for Gardy's liking. This team will not be relevant until 2015 if then. Until they realize that the philosophy is outdated things will remain status lousy. The game has past Ryan and Gardy by. How often do the Twins use a shift? How many times do our guys hit right into the shift. The front office - yes Terry Ryan - must go and the new GM needs to then fire Gardy and all the coaches. Come on Pohlad's - make the changes or your nice new stadium will have many more empty seats and take dollars out fo your pocket. Do not be like the TWolves and stay loyal to Ryan and Gardy. Time to clean house - there has to be an Adelman out there for the Twins.

A Twins player has to pass (a nice guy)litmus to become a permanent player in this Organization. The Twins Brass only wants nice fine young men to fill their clubhouse.Garza did not pass and you can also add Kyle Lohse to the list. The Twins (Holier- Than-Thou) attitude has finally caught up with them.

You need look no further than the 10 foot gorilla in the managers office on why players with personality are gone from this team Pat.

Patrick, it might also be a benefit to mention that in addition to Garza, they got rid of a somewhat young Kyle Loshe, who would look like bob gibson if he were still on this staff. The other thing to mention is that they got rid of garza and loshe because of "attitude" issues with manager. hmmm...

To me the problem with the organization were revealed in the last two months of 2010. Many long time followers of the team believed that the 2010 team was the best group of 8 day to day players the team has ever had. All that was in the way was finding a true #1 to guide the team through the playoffs. The team told me all I needed to know when they refused to complete the Cliff Lee deal. So, they simply gave up on winning the American League and World Series-satisfied with the Central title and being embarrassed by NYY in the playoffs again. I remember reading over and over that summer in a variety of sources and listening to games from across the Leagues that many teams felt Minnesota could have done it with Lee-and were relieved when he didn't end up here. Now, they are starting over and it's going to be years before they can compete again. All you need to know about 2012 Twins was the Swarzac play when he fielded the bunt and seemed to forget he had Rolen on third. By not looking Rolen back and throwing underhanded to first to get Cueto, he gave up the 4th run-and the game at that point. Where is the brain on these guys? Babe Ruth League players know what to do with that play-but not a member of the Minnesota Twins? How many other times have we read about these screw ups this year? Time for more changes and more trades.

The Twins do not pay for quality starting pitching. Contending teams do. The Twins ownership is interested in profits ahead of winning. Contending teams value wins first, recognizing that profits will follow. The Twins re-establish Ryan as GM knowing that he can operate a shoe-string budget. Contending teams go out and find the pieces they need to get to or stay on top. Or if they develop talent, they figure out how to keep it, not trade it or let it go.

At least Terry Ryan brought his genius back and started the rebuilding process by signing Jason Marquis and Joel Zumaya.

The first thing that needs to be done is to fire Gardenhire and his coaches. Then, started rebuilding and by 2015 the Twins will once again be a contender, at least for the Central title.

It is sad that the Pohlads take no pride in their ownership. And it is a pity that they have no love for the game. They don't know what they are missing.

My wife and I used to go to many games at the Dome and at new Target Field. We had a fun time when the baseball wasn't so bad. Alas and alack! It seems the prince (aka, management) has kissed the frog and it ain't a beautiful princess but an ugly old toad (aka, the Twins). The fairytale turns to a nightmare when you realize the prince is paying the toad $100M and charging us exorbitant prices to watch the toad hop aimlessly around their bright new stadium. Well, you won't see us out there again . . . I just find it too obscene.
