I too had a child die of SIDS in an in home day care. My provider was well trained in safe sleep practices as were we. He was nearly 6 months old and had mastered rolling over in his sleep. He napped while the 3 other children in her care had lunch. He was checked on every 20 minutes. There were not any toys or blankets in in the pack and play. He still passed away. Although I completely and undeniably support enforcing safe sleep rules for day cares, sometimes when everything is done right, a child may still perish. I encourage anyone reading this to research the findings of Dr Hannah Kinney,Dr Michael Ackerman and several others found through NIH (National Institutes of Health) related to the causes of unexpected death in infants. We know that safe sleeping reduced the occurrence of SIDS significantly, knowing the biological cause may provide the ability perform screening and eliminate deaths altogether.
