The catcher is improving but might not start until the weekend series at Cincinnati.

With every little wimpy "injury" his contract looks worse and worse. Not that it ever looked good for the team. The Mauer contract was Exhibit A in the case against Billy Smith.

There's been a couple of "closers" and guys in the bullpen in the past for the Twins where I'd have locked the gate to the bullpen and not let them out to pitch. Ever. Again. Capps would be one of those guys. Trade him now and make Perkins your closer.

Kid from Arkansas is about to play/if they win one of two in the championship of College World Series. Can he still pitch for the team after he signs?

Anyone else out there miss the days when 'men were men' instead of babied children? Even the manager is afraid to say what he thinks about this Mauer situation!

..hurry Joe, get healthy so they can stick you back at catcher only to get hurt again and again. This organization is afraid to move Joe permanently just in case it actually keeps him healthy and he becomes the offensive phenom we all know is still there. Then everyone would be constantly second guessed as to why they didnt move him sooner. Sticking the 23 million dollar man behind the plate, only to get hurt over and over and over is so stupidy it has reached a whole new level of sports management insanity.....P.S. Smith made no major decisions on his own so cant blame him totally for Joes contract or the Twins Free Fall. Ryan was always the key "advisor" while Smith sat in the GM chair and took the heat.

Actually Billy Smith had nothing to do with contract negotiations. I believe that falls on Rob Antony. And with a contract such as Mauer's I willing to wager that Jim Pohlad was directly involved with the negotiations.

"Kid from Arkansas is about to play/if they win one of two in the championship of College World Series. Can he still pitch for the team after he signs?" I think it's the other way around, the team can't negotiate with him until his season is completed.

He should have pinch hit for Liriano after Butera doubled in the sixth inning last night. Instead Gardy chose to let the pitcher make an out and then lifted him anyway.
