Josh Harding chose a three-year, $5.7 million deal with the Wild over free agency, and GM Chuck Fletcher said the team has no interest in trading incumbent starter Niklas Backstrom.

I don't mind having Harding back, but the Wild overpaid - again! (see Backstrom, Bouchard, Koivu). I can't see how Harding deserved to double and then triple his salary based on his injury history and lack of consistent play.

If you don't pay the man then you risk losing him to another team for nothing. It'll be cheap for a starter NEXT season (2013-14).

I'm glad to see Harding will be back. Seems like a fair deal all the way around.

Good signing. And, at least to anyone that actually WATCHES hockey (hint, hint puckstopper), having a #1 goalie in '13-'14 and '14-'15 signed for a mere $1.9M is beautiful, especially after enduring that horrible Backstrom contract for the past four years.

I agree that $5.7 mil seems a bit much for a goalie who really hasn't proven any consistency or durability. However, having stated that, it still seems a reasonable amount to ensure the Wild has at least a serviceable back-up. After all, being honest, I'm not convinced Harding is a legitimate #1 goaltender. I might be wrong, but I see him as more of a journeyman goalie, than a true established #1.
