Chuck Fletcher moved popular Brent Burns to San Jose a year ago, but now he is reluctant to gut the Wild's youth for a draft-day gamble.

Well I'm not expecting a big trade so Fletcher's doing the right thing by standing pat. If we can land Suter I will be absolutely ecstatic. Parise I could care less about, as defense is our bigger need right now. A healthy Lats and Bouchard add another 40 goals to our struggling offense. But to create offense, we need some d-men that can get the puck out of our zone and that's where Suter comes in. Not to mention he's got some darn good offensive abilities himself.

wildforlife...I would love that too, but it is a pipe dream. Unless Nashville resigns him I think you can pencil Suter into Detroit's starting lineup next season. But hey, I will be more than happy to eat crow if I am wrong on that one. And I hope I am.

Mike, nice to see you finally put in print what I have been saying about fan favorite CC. Three consecutive years of no production during second half of the season. His future is bright? Not as bright as all of the youngsters mentioned in the article. From what I saw of him early last season, Bulmer could do everything CC could do, but he's bigger, and has a higher skill level. Fletch would be smart to unload him while he still has value. As far as being a fan favorite, those pining for CC will get someone else to root for.

Someone apparently missed their Prozac handout. "Healthy" Lats...maybe. "Healthy" PMB? Not likely.

april24Jun. 18, 12 9:44 AM

wildforlife, how can you say "defense is a bigger need right now" when we finished dead last in the league in scoring? With Brodin cominng and the further development of Prosser, Spurgeon and Scandella, I think the defense will be fine. Scoring is what's needed. Of course I'd love to add Suter also but Parise gives what we need right now, which is scoring.

If you could somehow move Koivu's terrible contract and a pick or two for Getzlaf I would hope Fletcher would entertain that. Imagine Getzlaf and Parise on a line together... heres to wishful thinking.

It's hard to make an empirical argument for Clutterbuck tailing off since he's basically exceeding expectations any time he buries the puck - which he has more than anyone projected him to. Maybe he did loose momentum and some of his grit over the course of the season but how you quantify that is one opinion against another. Either way, I'm glad we have his energy, his personality (f's sake this team needs it) and 90% of the time I'm glad he's hitting the way he does. More tangibly you could cite Cullen and Setogouchi as pieces that may not fit as well as they once did or figured to. Cullen definitely starts well and looks to tire. Unless Setogouchi was nursing an injury the public was unaware of, he definitely looked out of sorts in this lineup. Perhaps he'd be a more productive component in another system/market. Give Latandresse Parrish's cabin money and let him prove himself, trade him for any pick we can get if he's not up to it.
