This is all because of the GOP legislature's refusal to raise income taxes on the wealthy last year.

Well, you know, I'm sure the Tea Party has a solution for this...part of that solution no doubt involves further reducing government revenue while simultaneously reducing spending. I'm sure that will work. Of course, they all know that the only way to balance a budget is to increase taxes AND reduce spending. That's the ONLY way to do it. There is no other way. So the jist is that conservatives will NEVER fix any of the things they accuse liberals of doing. They just like pointing out that liberals suck. Which is actually all it's become both nationally and on state levels. I'm certainly enjoying watching this country disintegrate though. In 100 years America won't even exist anymore...and it won't be because of the debt or budget.

You need to thank the people responsible for this. When the homestead credit was eliminated, most people had no clue it was happening. It was stealth legislation. So do you know what irrelevant bill it was attached to? I do. It was the bill to put state workers back to work, and putting the workers back on the job was held hostage with this amendment. Dayton had his choice. Sign the entire thing, including the elimination of the tax credit, or risk not letting the state workers go back to work. This is what the republican controlled legislature sent him with a take it or leave it attitude. It is time for a relevancy law in this country so crap like this does not have to happen again.

Further, want to get property tax relief? It's really simple. Vote out the legislature that raised your taxes by eliminating the homestead tax credit. If that is not important to you, then this entire article was a worthless waste of time.

Could it be that people simply can't continue to pay increasing property taxes on properties which have greatly declind in value? This doesn't happen to people in one or two preprty tax cycles ... it happens over time. There is no vision for problem solving ... other than to just continue to increase proerty taxes ... on property which people can no longer even borrow against to make their property tax payments becaue their equity has so severely eroded!

Just more proof that property "owners" are really just renting from government and a more ruthless landlord I cannot imagine.

comment229; Please explain how something that just took effect this year caused people to not pay their taxes in previous years. According to this article, the number of delinquencies has actually gone down since they changed the homestead credit.

Is this the same group of people who fall into the category of the 49% who pay no income taxes??

There seems to be a large liberal element in our society who believe in paying and increasing taxes... but only for everyone else.
