Clearly, he cannot field very well to his right. Have him play closer to the line and I'll be far more happy.

so if the twins "braintrust" knew he was this good, then why was he on the bench in the first place...oh that's right...they had no idea. what is the old line about the blind squirrel?

also, it might be appropriate to mention that the twins wasted YEARS on guys like punto, butera, tyner, and luis rodriguez. people do realize that terry ryan's career record as gm is under .500, right?

tom kelly IS a below .500 manager. which drives home the point that players REALLY do win games.

although there's something to be said for exceptional people-managers in any endeavor, tom kelly is living proof that it's better to be lucky than good.

When comparing Tom Kelly's record, I think you need to compare it by other managers whose teams had similar payrolls over those same amount of years. TK wasn't lucky. If you are good, luck happens. Go back to the late 80's and read Andy McPhail's "plan". With the limited payroll, it could never be to win every year. I believe he looked at 4-5 year cycles.

As far as Trevor's success, it is remarkable. Hopefully it continues. But as anyone in the game will tell you, a hitter is made better by the success of the rest of the team. When a pitcher can't pitch around guys, everyone is better. No better example in baseball than Nick Swisher. Take him out of the Yankees lineup and away from a short RF porch and see what he does.

pazaluna - I don't know if you can say they wasted years on those guys. I think the sad fact of the matter is that they were the best they had. The cupboard was pretty bare.
