North Dakota will always for years to come move oil by rail,as long as Warren Buffet owns BNSF.Buffet is dead against any pipeline project to help out the glut of oil on the market, and he is in the pipeline business himself.

I'm sure Obama will veto any pipeline project

Hey North Dakota; Congrats on out producing Alaska! While conservation and saving energy are still important- this new oil and gas is bringing costs down for all Americans and making our country less reliant on anti-democratic nations (mainly in the middle east). It is a win win- Obama's opposition to modern pipelines to transport this resource has hurt economic growth and jobs. After three and a half years of delay they have put this pipeline on a slow forward track- 2009 2010 and 2011 were wasted.

The good part is the feds don't have to approve the pipelines like they do Keystone XL because they don't cross international borders. In a business friendly state like ND, it's not a matter of if, it's when these pipelines will be built. Progressives should celebrate them instead of fight em. It's much cheaper and 'greener' to pipe oil than ship it via diesel fume spewing rail and trucks. It's too bad MN wasn't blessed with all this black gold.

Build a refinery. Would probably be cheaper, and guess what - no spills. Other problems, but fewer.

A refinery would provide local jobs too. But that would cut down on the profits made from selling on the international market. Their entire argument is built on exchanging one evil for another. In 50 years, when those "children and grandchildren" grow up, what kind of environment will they have? We are so worried about the deficit we might leave them: how about worrying about what kind of world we leave them?

Warren Buffet will put a stop to any pipeline just as he did with Keystone. He negotiated a deal with Obama to kill the pipeline. In exchange for Buffet publicly supporting higher taxes Obama killed Keystone. Follow the money - Buffet owns railroads that carry oil and the pipelines would have a significant impact on his business.

We in Minnesota have our version of "Dirty Fuel" which is the corn ethanol industry. When I mean "Dirty" I mean farmer greed, not Dirty Ethanol which is clean burning. As a average sized grain & livestock producer I see the landscape of farming changing in a negative way every day. 1. Corn farmers do not have a "good neighbor" policy anymore- letters and phone calls to landlords stealing land away from those with the goal of making a living. 2. With $6 corn farmers are tearing up alot of CRP and farming every pothhole they can put in to raise corn while tiling the ground every 40 feet to send excess water down to the creek, not just tiling for a flood type year but as for "total control" of the amount of water left in the soil. 3. Next is irrigation-- they will put up more irrigators in the next 10 years than what has been put in- in 50 yrs which will decimate our well water. 4. Ethanol and greedy corn farmers have caused livestock numbers to dwindle enough that prices have went up so meat in the stores is so high that it is getting hard for alot of families to provide adequate protein in their diets. 5. If the foreign countries quit importing meat & grain from the U.S. the prices will plummet causing tough times for farms and small town economies, it will make "The Eighties" look like nothing. Truth is Politics and Greed without Godliness is what is really "Dirty" all over this country.

Keystone XL pipeline is alive and well, sort of. With the oil by rail shipments on the Canadian Pacific main line rail going south, they are moving alot of crude. All that crude oil on rail cars passing through Minnesota and nobody cares, until there is a derailment. Next time, take a look at the tanker trains nowadays. No, Warren Buffet doesn't own the CP.
