Why do district employees have the first shot at the jobs at the school. The fair and smart thing to do is to give the jobs to whoever is best qualified.

Another example of how this new Anoka county board is systematically going through expenditures and questioning everything. We are behind you commissioners to do what is right for the taxpayers.

Interesting. What does "network at a bigger scale" mean?

@howlinjags: Hmmm...let's see, put the shoe on the other foot...I'm guessing that if YOU were one of the district employees, YOU would want first crack at the jobs because YOU are already an employee there. Does it make sense now??? I didn't think so... :(

waterdogz, you are on to Dixon. Lots of meaningless jargon. Can't get through a conversation without saying "piece".

My husband taught at this school for several years many years ago. It was a special place with special employees and certainly "special" students. It then transitioned from students committing status crimes (truancy, running away) and property crimes to murder. These students require a special group of teachers with very specific skills. It is greater than the seniority of teachers. I hope the administration at Centennial is giving this very serious consideration.

It looks like 14 teachers will be laid off, I believe the other 15 are educational support people and an administrator. The headline is wrong.

2 blwhite: All the more reason for the district to resist hiring teachers solely by seniority in the district. They should interview and hire the best teachers available. Many of them may be the existing teachers who have been laid off. May the best and most qualified teachers be placed in the new jobs.
