Congratulations Cavonte and a huge THANK YOU to all of the adults who stepped up and encouraged you along the way! Now, readers, think about what it took to get this kid to where he is. How many others, like him, never make the personal commitment to better themselves and are "stuck" in their circumstances? Then what happens? It's all the schools fault when the student doesn't succeed. Every child needs caring adults in their lives, and we need supportive adults beyond the school system.

Cavonte is an amazing young man, I didn't teach him but knew him from times passing him in the hall, saying hi to him in other classes, and seeing him perform in track. We enjoyed time talking about school, life, and common knee injuries. Last week he came into my classroom where I was teaching and gave me a big hug In front of my class - I am so proud of him and his accomplishments, and am looking forward to hearing him speak at graduation.

This story is heartwarming, and we NEED success stories like this to balance negative news. Cavonte, it would be great for you to speak with other struggling young people at local youth gatherings --- maybe at library branches or at summer school, the Y, church groups, etc. You're a hero in my eyes, and I'll pray that your story has such an impact on other young people that they decide they too can find success in education, interpersonal relations, sports. 'WAY TO GO !!!!!
