I don't see why the rush to extend the guy. He's not done anything great since he's been here. 9th place finishes the last two years(years 4 & 5 in his tenure hear) gets the guy an extension? Yes, the program was in rough shape when he took over(thanks Joel Maturi), but not as rough shape as when Monson took over after the academic scandal from Clem Haskins. I guess a run in a meaningless tourney the end of year 5(ending in a lacadaisical blowout), declining attendance & moral among fans, & players leaving the program(players he recruited) earns an extension at the University of Mediocrity. Where do I sign up?

Faux pas number one for the new AD. Tubby is a conmplete bust

Another AD that rewards mediocrity?

NOOOOOO. $1.75 million to be at the bottom of the big 10. what a waste of funds.

The U should put the same effort in reducing tuition as they do extending coaching contracts...

Let's all keep in mind that a lot of the reasons for mediocre seasons were due to factors outside of Tubby's control. Things like injuries and transfers. It's true some players may not have liked Tubby's style of coaching but attrition is a regular part of college athletics. It happens. Also, remember that Minnesota is in the B10 Conference which just so happens to be the strongest basketball conference in the country. The level of competition is very high. I, for one, am very excited for next year's team. We have a solid core returning (including Mbakwe) not to mention some new recruits who should make an instant impact. Remember folks, this isn't Kentucky - we're not going to get multiple national championships. As long as we have respectability I'm happy.

gopherfosho, then you cannot be happy because ever since Orlando came here there has been zero respectability. I can't identify why you have excitement for next season . . . . the recruits are substandard and with or without Mbakwe, this team will finish 7th-9th in the B1G

Orlando was hired with the reputation of being a top recruiter with connections coast-to-coast. After five full years of subpar recruiting it is apparent that was an undeserved reputation. Now, they write, "Teague has the reputation of being an excellent judge and retainer of quality coaches from his years at Virginia Commonweath". But, Teague is going to extend the contract of a coach who has failed miserably to improve the basketball program over the past five seasons. First dent in his reputation . . . . . . with more to follow, I expect.
