Twins were smart not to draft him - there is no way this kid signs a pro contract - he is going to go play college ball at San Diego U and isn't signing. It would have been a wasted pick by the Twins. The Twins can draft him after his Junior year as San Diego.

Even with the new bargaining rules, he should be offered a nice contract as a second round pick. Good luck to him.

Nice reporting Star Tribune!! You claim that MN still hasn't produced a pitcher as a 1st round pick, and you claim that Joe Mauer was the last MN kid to go in the 1st round, but you are failing to remember that MN kid Glen Perkins was selected in the 1st round of the 2004 draft. Good research once again.

"Minnesota has yet to produce a high school pitcher selected in the first round." Perkins wasn't selected by the Twins in 2004 out of high school.
