Twins face tough draft decision

Is Stanford pitcher Mark Appel just too nice? That's one concern as the Twins ponder their No. 2 spot in the draft.

So aren't these the same guys in charge of the draft this year that have blown the last few drafts? Why do we believe this draft will be any different? I guess they figure the odds are they will get it right sometime. I am becoming one of those pessimistic fans I hate so much. I am losing all confidence in any of the Twins management to make good decisions.

Appel can get to 99 mph, draft him if he is available!

Just what this team needs... More "nice" guys who pitch to contact. Meh.

if he doesn't pitch to contact he's not their guy. 99 mph probably won't be with the Twins cause they'll tell him to slow it down so he can be more accurate and pitch to contact so your defense can make plas behind you. I'm hoping the astros pick him so he doesn't get ruined by the Twins way

Not a tough decision at all for Gardenhire and Anderson. They won't draft him because he is too smart for them. These like their pitchers really dumb. Baker, Liriano, Capps et al. come to mind.

With 5 of the first 72 picks, the Twins can't overspend on just one guy. Its going to be very difficult for the Twins to sign all their picks with the new CBA rules. Probably wasn't the best strategy letting Nathan, Cuddyer, and Kubel walk for draft picks, when the Twins won't be able to sign them all. I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins try to go cheap, select a bunch of no-names like; Ben Reverre and Trevor Plouffe. Its these kind of draft miscues that have been part of the problem in the Twins demise. I share the pessimism of other Twins fans, who wondeer if this currnent management team has the capability to make good decsions. From what the Twins have shown me the past couple seasons alone, leads me to doubt it.

Take Byron....if anybody can name me one fantastic SP that the Twins have EVER drafted, I would like to hear it....

i'd like to see the Twins pick Gausman or if healthy, Giolito. Sounds like the reports on his elbow/arm injury are very positive. Stay away from the Bruxton kid.

No way I would take Appel. He has good qualities, but too many issues: Boras as agent, too nice on the mound, has thrown too many pitches in college, is over the top Christian (which takes his edge away). I would go for a position player who goes out there every day. Hopefully, Houston will take Appel, leaving the Twins to take Buxton.

The REAL reason they wouldn't take him? Just like Slowey, he's TOO smart for Gardy. But then again, who isn't?
