Almanac: Decline in turkey license sales goes unexplained

I can explain one less turkey license. After 12 - 13 years (10 trips) of never bagging a turkey I gave it up. I don't hunt deer and I think that hurt me hunting turkey as many of the same skills are required. The last time I went I found myself not even trying so I knew it was time to hang up the calls. Gave them to a friend's kid. The friend regularly gets turkeys so I'm helping the kid get his first.

you can't just go out in the woods and expect to get a turkey. You can be a champion caller and never get a bird. The biggest reason I have had success is because I know where the birds have spent the previous night, because I "put them to bed" the evening before. In other words, I did some scouting to find out where they are
