Whistleblower: Minnesota small claims cap soon will rise to $15,000

A law that takes effect in August raises the maximum dollar value for conciliation court cases. That means more people can file small claims without hiring a lawyer.

They keep talking about the poor people but I have to agree with the one guy looking at it from the other side; this looks like it is a business accomdation more than something for poor people.

chcuckdancer try and do the math if a contractor ripped you off for a total amount of 10000.00 you would have to take it to district court pay a lawyer and if you won walk with maybe 3500.00 so what this does is stop the ripoff artist because if the loss is greater than 20k take it to district court because there probably was criminal intent. And there are plenty of them that knew the small claims court limit so they would play on that.
