One thing's for sure: At age 27, you can't say that he was rushed into Majors.

Maybe he can replace Mauer as the hometown hero.

Patrick - Great column... and here I thought you could only write negative rants.

The question is lets hope he dorsn't fit the Gardy-Anderson mold of pitching to conatct, it sure didn't work last night as the Twins booted and threw the ball all over the place. Lets hope he has some giddy-up on the ball instead of the soft toss approach again.

Hopefully he does well. Then he can take Blackburn's spot.

I am so tired of this "pitch to contact" rhettoric on Twins stories. It is called throwing strikes. The Twins emphasize throwing strikes and getting ahead of the hitter. When they fail to do that, like Blackburn and Liriano, they get shelled.

Pitching to contact is the politically correct way of saying the guy doesn't have enough stuff to strike a guy out. Good luck Cole.

My friend's son played against Cole in high school and he said he "owned Cole", albeit, and hopefully, things have changed since high school.

efrik1 - Unfortunately, a lot of kids "owned" Cole throughout the years. That being said, Cole has done a tremendous job of keeping his head down and grinding to continue getting better. You don't make the U of MN squad without being pretty darn good (I know, they don't win National titles, but mostly southern and warm climate teams do). The U of MN is the top baseball option in MN. Cole not only made their team, but he became the best they had. He then caught on with the Twins and worked his way through. No, he doesn't throw 95 and he doesn't strike a lot of guys out - BUT - not many people do. The ones that do? They make the majors quickly and are paid lots of cash. Let's let Cole jump in there and see what he's got. I played against Cole many times growing up, and I am extremely happy for him. Good luck Cole, you deserve it and I hope you enjoy the reward for all of your hard work.
