At 111, Minnesota's oldest resident calls herself "a normal person living a normal life," but her longevity puts her in unusual company.

You know, you look at these extraordinary individuals and they all DO have one thing in common: A positive, up-beat (and yet stunningly realistic) attitude toward life. Kind of lends more credence to, "Don't sweat the small stuff."

Sounds like a great lady who figured out what was important in life. I'll bet the fact that she still does things with her children plays a part in her longevity.

A dear friend of mine lived to age 102 and, until the last several months of her life, alone in her south Minneapolis bungalow. She possessed a perpetual attitude of gratitude despite, or perhaps because of, the difficult circumstances she had endured and overcome earlier in her life. I suspect that her attitude contributed to her longevity.

What a great story, and thank you for giving credit from which all things come, the Lord! A positive and grateful outlook for the hard times as well as the good times, both which build character and compassion, no tobacco products and moderate alcohol intake, are other major factors in living a long life.

Anna is a member of my church. At her last birthday party, my 5-year-old son and I went up to wish her a happy birthday. She told him that he looked just like his grandpa (who is now in his late 60s) looked when he was 5! What a neat lady!
