Message pitch at Carroll is unexpected

A pitch thrown behind Jamey Carroll? The Twins' mild-mannered veteran infielder? How does that happen?

Any future consideration for Butera to pitch? I see his batting avg. is respectable now but when he goes back under .200, I would think he would consider going to spring training next season and throwing a few innings.

One of the things I loved about the Twins youngsters of the early and mid-80's (Hrbek, Bruno, Puckett and company) was how feisty they were. They were thrown at and would come right back and get at the other team. That showed how competitive and tough they were and were going to be. I do not see that same competitiveness with this team. They seem easy to push around.

You're correct, danmyte. That's why this team needs a leader on it. Something they've been lacking for years -- maybe since Hunter. Joe Mauer should be a candidate for this, but he's afflicted with this "Minnesota Nice" disease. Plus, he'd probably want more money to take on that role.

Yeah, I know Butera has been just barely hanging on in the majors, but it's refreshing to see a guy who will do what it takes to help the team. I like his pride in being a good catcher and his willingness to change his approach at the plate to improve his hitting.

I'm not sure it's a coincidence that the Twins turn around lately coincided with the Son of Sal being called up. He is hitting better than he has in previous years and he play behind the plate has always been sharp. I think he is better to second than Mauer. Let's hope that Diamond and Walters can keep up the good work and that the little power we saw from Revere continues.

Hypothetical question: If Doumit was slowed down any more than he was, how would anyone recognize it?

Butera, Angiel maybe that rings a bell although its in reverse from catcher to pitcher instead of pitcher to out fielder. Butera seems to be a good all around athelete and with some work by some body that knows something about pitching he could have an impact. Question about the game is when Marquis was getting hammered early in the game why did Gardy throw up his hands and leave him in there? He gave up on his team and they all knew it. Time for some body to go.

Nyger Morgan will be what he always has been: a trash talking piece of garbage. In June, I hope the Twins has a chance to answer Mr. Morgan with Perkins on the mound. A 95 mph fastball in on the hands sounds around right.

It's been true about Milwaukee for as long as I can remember, and Cleveland, too. They're always looking for fights and throwing at opposing hitters. Anybody who has visited the city or Miller Park knows what an angry bunch of drunks lives there. The team is a reflection of the neanderthals who live there.

Hrbek was a stand up guy and would get in the way of any batter that tried anything on one of his pitchers. We don't have that today. Butera - you may want to hold that thought - If you can go 6 or 7 innings - you can replace Jason in the rotation.
