Year after year, voluminous Lake Mille Lacs beckons anglers with its bombardment of the senses. The walleye fishing is pretty good, too.

When will Indians stop ruining everything they are allowed to use. Do they not understand their main source of income for the local economy comes from fisherman using the lake. No fisherman means no money for all the local businesses, which in turn makes another yunk yard thanks to Indians. Then again, I don't think they care, the Gov't checks keep coming no matter what. Pathetic!!!

Great Walleye lake, one of the best in the world. I have heard it called the 'Dead Sea' by many fellow MN "fishermen". I put fishermen in quotes because you really need to know how to fish to fish Mille Lacs, and its like every other lake, you need to know where to go. But even then its a fickle lake. Everybody I have taken out who has never caught anything has limited out, sometimes within 45 minutes. Awesome lake and a great place to spend fishing year round. Would love to see more of these about other GRAND MN fishing lakes.

I don't know but I was on a "reservation" lake this past weekend and caught WAAY more fish (multiple species)in two days then I have on Mille Lacs in years..and yeah, I'm a pretty good fisherman. The problem with Mille Lacs is like alot of things in this state now..over legislation and over hyping everything..Mille Lacs gets marketed to death and like every where else it has good days and bad days..its not the indians fault..the advertisers have to stop blowing smoke up everyones skirt about how great the fishing is all the time. Why should I spend the money on gas, bait, food, etc to fish on a lake that I can barely keep anything due to slots to have a fish fry? duh

What's up with all the hatred towards American Indians whenever Mille Lace is mentioned. One comment says the Indians 'destroy everything'. I didn't know a whole race could be indicted for something....

The lack of food for walleyes is likely the exploding zebra mussel population. Last summer the DNR found significant decline in tulibee and perch which are a major food source for walley. A lake in Manchester England stocked with z.m. to clear the water finds no fish now. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-16252724 follow this link to see. Fishing people here need to understand this devestation and comply with law to prevent their spread.

Lakewomen- grouse are on the decline right now too just like your stated tulibee and perch in ML- should we blame zebs for that too? Come on- it's all cyclical. No need to jump on the invasive band wagon so quickly.

How many Zebra muscles did Griz haul into the lake on his boat and tackel he regularly uses on the Mississippi? Anybody check these boys freezers to see how many fillets are hidden there?

Zebra mussels aren't a fad du jour or part of a cycle - they don't belong in this ecosystem called Mille Lacs. Those newly hatching walleyes need microscopic organisms to survive (a one-inch walleye cannot eat other fish yet). The zebs destroy those little critters the baby walleyes need.

Mille Lacs has 1/2 its spawning fish since the start of gill netting during the spawn... Gill Nets DO NOT belong in the ecosystem called Mille Lacs.
