Hartman: For starters, Twins rotation is a disaster

  • Article by: SID HARTMAN , Star Tribune

Nearly all of the pitchers on the staff in 2010 have higher ERAs this year. The hitters have dropped off, too.

not only have none of last year's starting pitchers improved, they've become laughable. it's time to find a new pitching coach and bring on the young arms....

Those numbers two years ago Sid were an aberation. No...Valencia will not be playing with the Twins again. Nor will Parmalee.

I watched, along with my dad, the first game the Twins ever played in MN. In all the years since then, I have never been more disgusted with Twins baseball than the past few seasons. And the main reason is, contrary to what Sid says or Neal or Reusse or Souhan is the fact that Gardenhire is never held accountable for his actions in running this team on the field. Never. His teams have always under-achieved when given the talent and for the most part regressed. It's been stated so many times by so many comments...but it is so true...his buddy system with coaches has never taken the level of play to a new level. His poor game management has been exposed over and over again by opposing managers...This is suppose to be MLB folks...there is no way that any other organization that is committed to winning puts up with this.

Wow, that's as close as I have ever seen Sid come to actually criticizing Mauer!

The Twins have continued to make poor roster moves. They have been poor judges of talent;both of pitching and position players. They are the worst team in baseball. The problem goes right to the top.The Twins are on a downward side. The 1961 Twins did have 4 major league starters.Pascual and Kaat pitched for the Twins in 1965,Ramos helped the Yankees win the AL pennant in 1964. Kralick pitched a no hitter in 1962.The bullpen was weak in 1961.Still the 1961 Twins were a much better team than this year's Twins.Ron Gardenhire gets much more slack cut for him than Sam Mele ever got from Calvin.Calvin would have fired Gardenhire long ago.

Neither Ryan nor manager Ron Gardenhire can figure out how so many of these Twins played so well two years ago and, for the past two seasons, they just have lost it.- Well said, Sid. I look at that group of players and just shake my head in disbelief. WHAT is the problem?! Somebody get hot! Let's get this thing rolling!

Terry Ryan should be fired, this is not Gardies fault. You put a triple A ball club against the pro's what would you expect to happen. The Pohlads are so predictable, build us a new stadium and we will trade all of our quality players so we can become even wealthier. Minnesota you are being duped. Get over it!

Hopefully Ryan will keep trying to dig out of it. Land one new even semi-competent starter. Dump Blackburn and Marquis. Rotation: Povano, Duensing, New Guy, Diamond, Walters. Try out Guerra, Slama, and Waldrop for Duensing's pen spot.

back in march I said this team was DOA for 2012 because they had NO pitching. You didn't have to be a genius to see that. All you had to do was pay attention. To make matters worse the pitching coach is terrible. name one pitcher who has shown improvement under his coaching. name one..But the situation is that this franchise is dead, rotting from the top down. Pohlad is NOT committed to winning a championship and because of this there is really no hope for this team as long as he is the owner. You build him a shiny new stadium and this is what you get. The root cause of the problem is Pohlad!

The reason this team is terrible is due to the lack of focus on the farm system and the pathetic returns on trades under the Bill Smith era. If you think Terry Ryan is the problem, you have no idea what's going on....
