County warns against teen drinking, even if parents host

As graduation season nears, the county attorney announced stepped-up law enforcement. "Kids can't drink responsibly," he said.

Finally! I applaud the statement that if you chaperone a party where kids may consume alcohol, then you're not being a parent. As a parent of high schoolers, I cringe every time I hear parents say "Kids will be kids." Such a crock and just an excuse to not parent. If we set clear expecations for our children to not drink, guide them consistently and ensure they understand repercussions of not meeting expectations, they will follow suit. And frankly parents should not drink alcohol. That way the kids have an example to follow. Awfully hard to ask our kids not to do something if they see us do it.

I was with you mythots, right up to where you said adults should not drink alcohol. Adults should model appropriate behavior with regard to alcohol but Prohibition is long gone.
