His selection as the Wild's new TV play-by-play announcer brought considerable objections from the team's fans.

I can't decide what's going to be worse. Listening to Lapanta on the Wild TV broadcasts or listening to a radio broadcast that's telling me about a play that won't happen for another 7 seconds while I'm watching a muted television.

I'm just going to start off where I left off of last year. Fire someone, trade someone and move the Vikings to L.A.

Everybody, just don't watch. You already know how the game is going to end. 3-2 Wild lose while getting outshot 30-20. The Wild goals will be scored after the puck deflects off of 4 bodies and in.

Sample size. Statistically speaking, when a sampling is stating such an outcome with such overwhelming significance...well the guy probably shouldn't have been hired. Besides, when the logic is that the guy loves hockey and is a hockey dad, aren't there a half million other people in the state with the same resume?

For a middle sized market, we have the worst sports media (tv, radio, and print) in the country and it isn't even close. That is the great thing with the league specific networks. If you are truly a fan of a specific game, then you are able to let go of the scrub local teams and sports media and just enjoy the game for what it truly is...a game.

I didn't see all the venom thrown at LaPanta when this was first announced. I don't have anything against him. He is a passionate sports guy. But I don't care for his play by play call. I think the Gophers took a step back the past couple of years. On the other hand, I am more of a Gopher hockey fan than Wild. So maybe this is the opening to bring Frank Mazocco (sic?)back to do play by play for the Goph's. Frank and Tom Reid are still my favorite hockey announcing team ever.

Still think that the fans deserve better. We are the ones who listen to the games. Emmy or no Emmy LaPanta is NOT the one for this market.

"mheerey"...Couldn't agree more. The "backlash" had nothing to do with Lapanta on a personal level at all. I also don't think that most Wild TV fans cared if the new hire was from Minnesota - just give us one of the better hockey play-by-play guys - that is all that was being asked/stated. We didn't get that, so now the natural reaction is a.)Must have been the money, b.)It's only a one year deal so they certainly weren't as confident as they are leading us to believe. But, please, NOTE TO WILD/FSN - Don't try to spin this like you got your guy you wanted all along, or that you got the best hockey play-by-play guy that was available - we know better because we have heard the best. But in the bigger picture, if the team doesn't show improvement it won't really matter who is calling the game when the TV's will be on a different channel.

LaPanta is the most boring play by play guy I have heard. It has been painful to listen to him do the Gopher telecasts. I still haven't figured out why they replaced Mazocco with him.

We don't need the announcers, coaches, or players to be from Mn.--though Parise would be nice. Just give us good players, and I won't care where they're from.
