Amenities at the new attraction will resemble a water park to compete with what more suburbs now offer.

The article says the revamped Mpls. pool will be free. What about the Como pool?

Nope. $4.50 for kids, $6.50 for adults.

Como Park is such a great place for families to go for an outing. Somethings cost money, putt-putt golf, for example is not free either. Como Park is a great asset for the Cities. It offers so many things; the zoo, the little rides for little kids, the Conservatory, green space, and now an awesome pool. And don't forget the putt-putt golf. Como Park Rocks.

Pools need continuing maintenance, chemicals, staffing, testing etc. It would be nice if it could be free, but that just isn't realistic. Season passes usually are the most economical way to go and cost less per outing than paying each time. Could there be some programs that help lower income families participate at a reduced rate via United Way or some such program? I don't know the answer to that - just putting it out there. To attract kids and families, the pools have to put in amenities to compete, and that doesn't come cheap, and certainly not free. Perhaps one idea would be to have one free family night, or reduced fee day per week.

I love St. Paul pools. I learned to swim there just last year. I also go to their water aerobics classes weekly. Their pools use a Spagnum moss which reduces the amount of chlorine needed. While it is not free to swim, the prices are quite reasonable. Plus, they have multiple discount days and occasional free days so it's available to all. My family is really looking forward to Como's reopening. We'll be there every chance we can.

I applaud the opening of this pool in the crown jewel park of Como! I also commend the city for approving the lifeguard uniforms noted in the photo. Nice.

This place will be packed! And yet not over crowded. Anoka County's waterpark is a big hit in the summer. There's no where else to go.

It's a shame that swimming is not allowed in Como Lake. Why not make 2-3 nice sandy beaches and turn it into something even nicer than Lake Calhoun?
