The thorny issue of alcohol sales was left open as the university and the team next will draw up a lease.

The U better invest it where it has can have the highest potential return - Boosting the Gopher football program. That would be an investment that could have a nice, nice return. Spreading it far and wide across all of the programs makes very little sense. That spending would basically be writing one check and getting only what happens in a season, read that no monetary investment return.

While it may still be a "University Stadium", it most definitely will not be a University crowd. This is a much older fan base and alcohol sales should not be judged on a U of M student criteria. I'm 48 and a season ticket holder and mature enough to decide if I want to have a beer or two at a football game and when to say "when". If they deny alcohol sales to Vikings season ticket holders based on their "student body" criteria I know about 45,000 Vikings fans that will be ticked off.

Hey Conan – As a “mature” Vikings fan, you should be grown up enough to know that when you’re a guest at someone’s house, you don’t whine about the menu choices. Instead, the correct response is “Thanks for letting us use the place during construction.” From what I saw during and after the Vikings/Bears game at TCF Bank Stadium, that’s not the response I expect from most Vikings season ticket holders.

'"This is a university campus," he said. "I think there needs to be some kind of control."' Of course you want control, Regent. Of course you do.

Are they going to do anything with the playing surface? I doubt the heating coils will be enough to keep the surface from causing a few concussions again if the temps drop below zero during late season games.

They need the money to replace the old field house and WIlliams Arena.

OH no naysayers... why are you not shouting about the tyranny of a private company having a transaction with a public entity now??? The Vikings also plan to pay for permanent upgrades to the TCF stadium too (heated turf).

Smartestguy - did you read the story? The Vikings are upgrading the stadium, paying rent and splitting all concessions with the university. With that said, they are not guests, but tenants. They should be allowed full alchol sales.

This school gets a lot of tax payer dollars how about using the money to offset the budget they have or reduce the 3% tuition increase the announced.

Wow!! They let us use the stadium we built for them. How nice!!
