It's up to the City Council to do what the Legislature was unable to do, VOTE NO!

"Minneapolis City Attorney Susan Segal argued the stadium plan did not trigger the charter referendum requirement because the state is merely reclaiming its own money. The bill goes further and thwarts potential court challenges by nullifying that section of the city charter." ---- R.T. and Susie are nullifying what the citizens of Minneapolis should be able to have a vote on. Nice... Well, the final roadblock is the City Council. If the City Council fails its own people, it is then proven that Minnesotans live in a true plutocracy.

I am glad I don't live in Minneapolis, I don't drink in bars and I don't gamble on the state's ticket. The legislature and governor's gall saying that Minneapolis citizens get no say in how over $600 million will be spent is appalling. I look at the pictures of the idiot fans with their face paint and costumes and feel nothing but shame for the way the citizens of this state are being snookered by Zigi Wilf and the politicians. The whole stadium episode makes you understand why people from the the east coast have no respect for the "hicks" that live here in fly-over country. CK

"The final legislation ensures Minneapolis voters will not take a vote on the stadium, despite a city charter requirement to hold a referendum when the city spends more than $10 million on professional sports facilities." - So, isn't there anyone or any group in Minneapolis who will stand up to this and who gives a fig about the rule of law? Is everyone going to roll over and play dead? This is pathetic.

I pledge $200 to help fund the lawsuit to force a Minneapolis referendum.

It's official. The citizens of Minneapolis have been sold down the river by a conniving legislature, a mayor who's eyeing another run for governor, and the coup de grace - its own city council who are going to vote to extend the highest hospitality tax in the history of our country so far out that kids who aren't even born yet will have gray hair by the time they pay their last dime of it. Shame on us for electing these schemers. Hopefully our kids will have better luck if they stick around.

Why would a council member who knows that most of her/his constituents would vote against this go ahead and vote *for* it? Payoffs from bars and restaurants? What else could it be? Do they think they know better than us, on a topic as simple as this one? This facility will be used for 10 Vikings games a year. Ten. That's not even one day per month in a calendar year.

Doormat you are fixated on just the Vikings using this stadium. It will be used like the Metrodome, close to year round. Not 10 Vikings games and thats it. Are you going to pay for the Metrodome to keep operating when the Vikings leave town? If you don't want to pay to operate it, will you pay to tear it down then? I live right by the Metrodome and can't wait for construction to begin!

zab2429, the new stadium is for the pleasure of the Vikings. The other users are just fine with the Metrodome. Nobody has considered what the rent will be at the new stadium for those other events or even what the Vikings ticket prices will be at a billion dollar venue. I certainly won't be surprised when the prices are completely unaffordable. So much for the "people's stadium".

State law overrides city law. Obviously some of you don't get it. I am happy for my city, and those lawmakers from Minneapolis who voted against the stadium are, in my opinion, always ready to give handouts to every person who comes to our city, and you and I pay for it. I think, if they had their way, most of the residents in Minneapolis would be subsidized in some way. Look at their voting records, people. They don't even think more police or fire personnel are needed.
