With a new transmission, SUV won't go into overdrive

Q Recently my son-in-law replaced the 42RE transmission in his '96 Jeep Cherokee with one purchased at a salvage yard. The transmission works well in all gears except overdrive. It will not go into overdrive when he reaches sufficient speed. Any suggestions on how to get it to go into overdrive?

Toyota- by all means get a second opinion, but do not add any additives before you do so. While it is true that coolant stop-leak does often work for minor seepage, in your case it may make it harder for a qualified shop to accurately diagnose the source of your problem (if indeed there really is one).
