Dennis, great story.

getting together with friends to go fishing or hunting...doesn't get any better.

Mr. Anderson, I'm sure there are countless men across every age bracket in our state that can identify with these gentlemen. The bonds created from things as simple as the fishing opener last forever. Thanks for chronicling their story, it was one of your columns that I wish went on longer. Good luck to these guys and may they enjoy many more openers together!

And they did not need 1 Billion dollars for a stadium to fish in.

You know what dvsdan? You could also re-write this story inserting Vikings in for fishing. Many people and families have bonded over the Vikings. And we don't begrudge the payment of millions of dollars to fund the DNR and maintain lakes and wildlife areas. Certainly the public cost of a stadium (minus income taxes received and other economic benefits received) over the next 40 years is far less than those costs.

Dennis, what a great story. Although my fishing partner of many years passed away 18 yrs ago, I still keep his coffee cup in my boat. I have a tattoo on my arm with his initials, he goes fishing everytime I go. I know he is with me in spirit. RIP Oogie!!!

Dennis, you're so good at spelling out the little details that we all feel and can relate to, and I thoroughly enjoy reading your articles because of this. Thanks for describing to, and reminding us just what good friends and traditions are all about! Good luck, and have a fun and safe opener!

Thank you DENNIS ANDERSON for this grate article. I love the fact that my dad and his friends are still together after all these years. I have been lucky to fish all over North America with Scrawn (my dad). I may have grown up on a lake in MN and now live in the mountains of CO, but I live 100 yards from gold metal trout water. I am lucky to have him for a dad, and even if I am 1100 miles away we can always share a good fishing story ,and it makes the miles feel a little less. Thanks once again Mike Sweeney.
