THEY ARE AWFUL. They picked up a huge van of items from me to sell at their Golden Valley location. Weeks later and several phone calls later I got a lousy check for $70. I got robbed. They are still doing weekly sales- PEOPLE WAKE UP.

Little people robbed by a businessman--legislators are in no rush to deal with that, the law ties our hands, etc. & etc. . Businessman seeking taxpayer funding for his stadium--legislators have all the time in the world to devote to that and will twist the law to see it happens.

Two things: Who did the math for the article? $27k in sales with a 30% commission and 12% expenses charge is not $21k. And as basia2186 says "press charges".

Jayboy, you cannot do the math without more numbers. 27K in total sales with 30% being charged on items and 12% on cars. 21K goes to the family and their cost between items and cars was 6K.

So glad to see this story!! I do not want anyone else to have to go through what we did with this company. I hope the Attorney General can close their doors and prevent them from re-opening under another name.

Why isn'tthis guy in jail? He's a rotten crook according to this story - there is NO excuse for this company to still be in business and conning people out of money - This is just awful! What is the Attorney General waiting for? Arrest him today!

The problem may be a civil versus criminal issue. He may lose lawsuits in court, but then, after they pile up, he may file for bankruptcy, erasing all his bills. He needs to be legally stopped from doing any and all sales until he pays up what he owes. It's already been shown that he won't pay from new sales.

This has been a long time coming. Ever been to one of their sales? Most corrupt company in town- and that is saying a lot. Birkeland is an estate sale company run by antique dealers. Conflict of interest maybe?? Lets start out with the people who work for Birkeland. Read their website regarding the strict system for appraising items. What a joke. These dealers who appraise for Birkeland undervalue the price of the things they want for themselves or their shops or their cronies and then "hide" these items under tables, in closets, in rooms marked private or in the garage. They know exactly where it is and are able to scoop it up for their own shops before the actual estate sale customers can get to it. I have been the first to walk into a room and have seen sold signs on things that were scooped up by a guy who works for Birkeland before he ever walked into the house. So, not only are they not paying the people who hire them to run sales but they are way undervaluing items for their own personal gain. I remember a sale years ago- one of the Birkeland appraisers (who was also a dealer that had space in Theater Antiques) bought a houseful of designer retro furniture for about $300 (Eames, George Nelson, Knoll- you get the idea). All of the most collectable items were hidden in the garage/in closets/under tables- because thats where you showcase high end museum quality designer furniture right? Those people who hired Birkeland for that sale were swindled out of at least $10,000 just from the items that dealer had purchased. Way to take advantage of families who are already grieving the loss of their loved ones Birkeland- I hope the people who hired you get justice.

Why couldn't our corrupt, lazy and worthless Minnesota Legislators addressed this problem while they were in session. They didn't get anything else done.
