The problem is, Williams doesn't have 30 lbs of excess weight.

Williams was a bit of bust. That's clear. He needs to work hard to say the least.

In no way was Williams a bust. He came out too early and just finished his junior year in college, courtesy of the Wolves. Basketball fans suffer because of the legion of guys who make themselves eligible for the draft before they are ready. Williams' mistake, IMO, was talking too big of a game before he was drafted, and he couldn't match his talk. No way to know what it takes to play in the NBA until after one's first year in the league. He definitely has the talent and intelligence to be more NBA-ready next year. It would be beyond foolish to trade him or Beasely.

I think they hold onto him unless they pkg him in return for a big time SG which they will probably get via FA, or a vet SF

Williams can have a very big impact on this team. Only time will tell though if he has the dedication and will to get better. Apart from his defense, I would love to see him create his own shot off the dribble. A little off topic but... Pekovic, although he made a lot of strides this year, still has a ton of work to do himself. I don't really hear a lot of people talking about that. He made too many offensive fouls and turnovers. He also struggled to get his shot off against taller defenders and he dropped too many passes that Rubio threw to him. Rubio really likes the pick and roll and Pek needs to get a lot better at it. IMO no need to make drastic changes this year though. I hope they keep both D-Will and Pek.

crosscheckit, I agree with your comments about Pek. His greatest deficiency is his inability to block or alter shots. Unless he loses 30 pounds and adds an inch or two of hops, he will be a liability on defense, especially when paired with Love, who is also a non-shot blocker/alterer. IMO, Pek could be one of the best backup centers in the league, but I really don't see him as a starter. One thing I know is that he will work hard on his game. What I don't know is if he can reduce the calorie intake. There's absolutely no need for him to carry 290 pounds, IMO.

The most underrated skills in basketball are passing and moving without the ball. They are the melody in the music. Derrick has a good "package" of skills but so do tons of guys. The Timberwolves don't need him to bust out skill-wise, they need him to play ensemble basketball... Make the back-door cut at the right time, play good help defense, sneak in for the tough offensive board. Be active and alert. If he gets it between the ears, no question - he'll be a really good plaayer.

The potential appears to be there. Hope he shows more of it next year. I think he will.

I like the strides that were made this year. Many of the comments above are great. One thing to consider is that there was virtually no training camp & a very tight schedule packed with mostly games. I'm excited about the chance Adelman will have this offseason to work with this team & have a full training camp. I'm hoping many of the problems with injuries will go away with the normal schedule. This is a big offseason for Martell Webster & Wes Johnson.
