This should not be a role of the federal government. The money came from MN, went to Washington and a portion of it gets returned to us. And for that we should be thankful? Why not keep it here and use all of our own money as we see fit. Having the feds play banker with our tax dollars is insane.

This is using taxpayer money to fund Obama's presidential campaign.

Lets do the math. $15 million for 9,700 patients in MN equals $1,546 a patient. That ought to cover a lot of health care, maybe one or two visits apiece.

So tell me again what are these clinics going to do with that money?

jpcooper - I can tell you what they are NOT using the money for, medical care. Open cities has a collection agency hounding me for $500 for tests that I did not know where not included with my co pay and charged the full price. Why would I goto a place like Open Cities and pay full price (on unemployment) when I can just goto any hospital instead?

I support universal health care but not initiatives such as this. As others point out, it is inefficient to send our money to Washington D.C. and then have some bureaucrats send some of it back to us. It is ironic that states such as Minnesota that typically vote Democrat are wealthier and pay more per citizen to the feds than the Republican states pay. At the same time, the Republican states, of course, tend to be poorer and so they don't pay that much in federal taxes but do get a lot of money from the feds. How about if we let the Republican states have their way? Let's stop paying so much in federal taxes and let the Republican states take cuts in the funds they get from the feds.
