But we're keeping the dome. So, let's put that money into education, eh?

If the college would hire a real baseball coach instead of dick sieverts water boy they would have had the new field 10 yrs ago.

I can't believe alumni haven't stepped to the plate and donated the money for the stadium.

"Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held June 11, and the ballpark will be ready for the 2013 season." ---- Uh oh. That just eliminated one of the maybe four Other-Than-NFL-Events that cause the dome to supposedly be used some 325+ other days of the year... Now how will they justify that the state having control of those 325+ days is such a profitable boon to the taxpayers??

This new-stadium madness needs to end. What next, high school teams demanding brand spanking new stadiums every few years?

I agree the current stadium is a dump. But, how many games will they be able to play in a new outdoor stadium. Looking at this yrs schedule they've played 35 games in the Metrodome beginning in Feb. If the Vikings get a new stadium replacing the Dome will it be able to be converted for baseball? If not where are all the early season games going to be played? Keep the Dome for the Gophers and all the other Midwest college & HS teams that use it. Build the Vikings stadium in Arden Hills.

Is there a reason the Gophs don't play in Target Field more often, or even Midway Stadium? There's no shortage of nice baseball stadiums in the cities.

Gophers baseball has been one of the few teams consistently competing at the top of the Big Ten. Baseball is as fundamental game as we have in America. We have a number of national championships. One of my great memories was listening to the 1956 College World Series and the Gophers national championship. I think a modest stadium on campus is appropriate for the college experience.
