The Star Tribune should check spelling on its copy more carefully. It's not Accretive Health, it's Accretive Wealth. Just like the accretion disc surrounding a black hole- sucks in all dollar bills that happen to be floating around in the vicinity. Watch out!

This isn't even the story they should be investigating, Accreative from the get go was a big scam...A big company that gets paid alot of money and moves money around to make it look like they are making a compnay more money thats obvious. The real thing that should be storied is how horrible FV treats their current hardworking employees. Instead of hiring more local employees and giving their current employees raises to meet the current economy they chose to overpay a bunch of zit faced college kids to come in and do nothing (Bacially what Accretive did). They overwork and put more work on employees versus hiring more, they aren't the lease bit flexible of an employee and are highly micromanaged.Do a little digging probably come up with a lot more then the Accretive scam!

"Mistakes"? The only "mistake" is that they got caught. This isn't an "oops, we accidentally hired a company of heavy handed law breaking thugs" situation, it's an "oops, let's see if we can get away with this" situation. Considering cutting ties? You mean you haven't done so already? That pretty much sums it up. Good job AG Swanson!

This is not new for Fairview. In 2000, a family member, who had lost a job and was not sure if they were still covered, was utterly harrassed by staff regarding payment while a patient. As soon as he was transferred out of critical care to a medical care unit, staff tried to get the doctors to write a discharge order. As it turned out the insurance was still covering him so they had no reason to do this at all. And these stories are abundant throughout this community about Fairview. I believe Mr Eustis has set a mission, values and strategy in place for his people to follow. However, this does not necessarily mean this is being implemented or led by his administrators, managers and supervisors. There seems to be a lack of genuine committment in many aspects of Fairview operations. Clinical quality, patient care and honest transactions have been the subject of many complaints over the years. And many of us in the community were saddened when the University of Minnesota agreed to the Fairview umbrella.

another day at the medicine for profit machine. each one of these weasel outfits that comes out from the shadows to chase the half-percent of unrecoverable costs that business staffs at health care outfits think exists for the picking brings universal single-payer medicine one week closer to reality. whatever happened to "non-profit service" in their corporate charters?

Fairview has sent me bills for the full cost of the services, when if fact the insurance company paid 95% of the cost. I had to call a dozen times to try and get them to correct their billings.

This is why companies hire contractors/consultants for these difficult jobs as once things go wrong they can cut their losses and assign all blame to the outside party all while reaping the benefits of their previous work. The cycle will just repeat itself when they bring in the next expert in this field who will try a different approach to get those who don't pay their bill to pay up.

There seems to be a complete disconnect from Fairview's mission and the Farivew administrators who signed off on Accretive Health's hapless collection scheme. The Board needs to reverse engineer how and who made these decisions, and then hold them accountable.

Ya think? You head to the hospital with some broken bones and who meets you at the door but Tony the Enforcer and a couple of his leg breakers, acting like they work for some loan shark. What's more, at the same time it's being reported that the CEO at United Health Care was paid $48MM last year.

How we've perverted that word, "mistake." I used to blush when certain liberals would plead for leniency and a second (or third) chance for a lifelong criminal, who they claim just made some youthful "mistakes" -- you know, like armed robbery, rape, or murder. I suppose it's not surprising that CEOs are using the same euphemism for criminal behavior. It's apparent that state and federal laws were broken here, plenty of them. In my book, a mistake is an unintentional error, a blunder, a slip -- like buying the wrong kind of chili -- or something you can fix with an eraser. Breaking the law when you know are, but think you won't get caught, is not a mistake.
