Does this guy ever end the idea, that whatever he touches is suddenly blessed? He hasn't fixed anything in almost 4 years. What a phony! The young are strapped for the rest of their lives with his debt. They will probably just shrug, and pull the lever for him again. If they do, they will get exactly what they deserve. They have to live with the countrie's new rules.

RalphM, absolutely correct, he will push to kick the can down the road another 4 years until hes out of office if reelected, just like all his other programs, the bill doesnt come due until hes gone.

OK, this article headline itself is ridiculous. What needs to be addressed IS the cost of college. Providing more loans at lower rates will not encourage colleges to find ways to reduce costs. Any school that is public and in any way partially funded by a government agency should be finding ways to reduce tuition costs. Private and for profits have the ability to do what they want, but the market will drive that. If there is better education for cheaper, people will go to the cheaper, if they are smart and the others will have to find ways to reduce costs. I'm sick of all the schools sitting there with hands out. We don't have an endless supply of money. Businesses don't operate that way. They have to find ways to reduce costs or lose out to others, schools need to start operating that way too. Top heavy administration costs is one place to start.

Obamas next manuever will be to forgive some of the interest on these loans in October, in order to get votes.

Student loan interest rate is not the problem. Cost of college is the problem. Govt subsidies will not reduce college cost, but increase them. Part of the problem with rising college cost is the low interest rate. It allows colleges to charge more, because the student can "afford" to borrow more at the lower interest rate. Besides subsidizing the interest rate that allows them to charge more we also give money to the public schools to keep the cost low. This is all just a huge scam by colleges to get more money.

Sounds like he's been managing his spending poorly his entire life. But now it's with YOUR money!

RalphM Apr. 24, 12 10:58 AM******************* So every problem was created by President Obama and one man controls our government enough to fix anything? By most forms of common sense, he has had an up hill battle with his own party and republicans. Yet, even when he tries to agree with conservative they disagree on the principle of who he is... not what he is doing. I wish he had the support that FDR had or even Bush II and maybe we could have seen more effective policies. Either way, he will win again and we will continue down the same path of madness from both sides of congress.... the actual law makers.

And your own personal experiences have been passed on to America. We also got poor together with your policies and our bailing out everything with your super neat stimulus that accomplished one thing; It wasted a hell of a lot of our money. I hope these kids don't get caught up in your lies again come November.

Being a minority student I am betting Obama got a whole lot more free schooling than many of us non-minorities.

Once again the baby boomers want to pull the ladder up after they climbed it. Baby boomers had hugely subsidized student loans (we're talking sub 2% most of the time, sometimes sub 1%), but not we can't afford it because they don't want to pay any more taxes. We need to transfer the burden onto the youth that are just starting to establish their lives. There is a reason 1 in 4 college graduates live back at home and college grad unemployment is 50% and among those that do get employed they will never make as much money as their 'boomer' counterparts. The baby boomers are going to bleed our country dry with their greed and unwillingness to invest in the future (because why should they, they'll be gone right? it's all about them - the most selfish generation)...
