Two 23-year-old auxiliary scoreboards will be replaced by Aug. 1. Costing $276,000, they could be moved to a new Vikings stadium.

That will be very useful for the two scenarios most likely to occur. Either the dome will be demolished in lieu of a new stadium or the Vikings will be gone. Money well spent!

@themightyb, you got that right. I don't understand why they continue to polish a turd. You can shine it up as much as you like, but it's still a turd.

What a waste of money. This money should've gone forward to a new stadium. Besides that, isn't it now called "Mall of America Field"?

Why would they spend a penny on something that will be leveled in a few years? Use the funds for this signage and apply towards cost of new stadium if it were to be built. If the Vikings go away then maybe consider updating the Metrodome. For this nugget of intelligence I will not charge the Metropolitan Sports Facility Commission my usual consulting fee.

The Democrats in the MN house backed by lack of leadership by the Democrat Governnor told the Viking to move out of Minnesota after this season. Why in the world would we taxpayers be required to pay a dime for any upgrades to HHH Metrodome? Oh, that's right, Ted Mondale is a Democrat and is happy spending other people's money.

metrodome has new, quality roof and new, high quality turf. and now some new, high quality video displays. centrally located, 365 day a year stadium, on bus/rail/highways grid. for relatively little a year in upkeep and continued, minor improvements, we could have the dome (it's paid for, btw, and WE own it) for at least forty more years. at least. am not pro or con a new vikings stadium, btw. but if we do not build a new stadium on part of the current dome's land, then we should utilize the dome for the public good it is and can continue to be. a large metro area in a northern climate... we certainly can continue to utilize the dome for high school and college sports, rallies, entertainment, etc. yes, the building is less than ideal, and, yes, we should try to keep the vikings here, possibly via making a new dome on the same site.... but as much as we'll regret if the vikings leave, we'll regret it just as much (as a whole, that is; am sure vikings fans would regret the team's leaving even more) if we end up with no, domed stadium in or near downtown minneapolis.

The scoreboards will go in the new stadium if there is one. So, this is not a waste of money.

...and if there isn't a new stadium? Good idea to spend over a quarter of a million on what will soon be a defunct stadium.
