Stephen Hill is both a boom or bust prospect and a player that plays the wide receiver position which is one of the biggest strike out positions to try and draft. I know a lot of people are hoping that he falls to the Vikes in the second round. If he's there at #35 and the Vikings take hime I can live with that but I think he is way too risky to move up for. If you give up a 3rd or 4th round pick to move up for Hill with that second pick you may have given up the best wide receiver in the draft with that 3rd or 4th round pick. This draft is full of wide receivers.

With the 3rd pick the Vikings have wait time ran out on them, i cant believe they did this again , anyways after the 4th and 5th picks come off the board the Viking s select a TE from North Carolina St..... yeah sarcasm, one would think they cant screw this up, but hey its the Vikings

Wide receivers that warrant a high pick are rare. Many quality receivers have been selected in rounds 3-7. 'You can look it up' asCasey Stengel used to say.

A little surprised that Jeffrey isn't on this short list. I would guess that by picking OT on the first pick, they will be in line to pick Jeffrey with their second round pick. Potential is there for a huge NFL career.

Didn't Troy Williamson run a sub 4.4 40 yd? Didn't his stock soar before the draft?!? Speed is nice but there are certainly other factors that go into being a NFL caliber receiver. Drafting a WR from a college option team, especially high in the draft, does nothing for me and seems far too risky for a team with so many needs.

Take the tackle. Historically speaking, receivers drafted in the top 10 rarely live up to the pre-draft hype. Just look at the Lions from 2003 to 2007 … #2 overall, 2003 Charles Rogers (injury prone, only three years in the league), #7 overall, 2004 Roy Williams (still in the league, but he did not live up the #7 overall pick), #10 overall, 2005 Mike Williams (Lions, Oakland, Tennessee and Seahawks … need I say more) and finally, the one that worked out was C. Johnson in 2007 at #10 overall … I realize that was Matt Millen making the decisions, but the pre-draft hype was wrong 75% of the time in these cases. This comes down to M. Kalil or J. Blackmon … all pre-draft hype being equal; I’d say Kalil is the safer pick at #3.

@fwallen--Wide receivers that warrant a high pick are rare.--EXACTLY! Blackmon is basically a poor man's #1 WR in the NFL. If Blackmon would of been in last year's draft he would of been behind Julio Jones and AJ Green.

I don't get all the trade talk with Cleveland trading down and a team trading up to the 4th pick for Tannehill. Did everyone forget about us. Something funny is going on. I believe Cleveland will take Tannehill and is merely trying to convince teams they will not take him to avoid having a team leapfrog them. With that said Kalil should be our first pick. I like WR in rd 2 Hill preferably, or Alshon Jeffrey. Hill is raw but with Harvin and Jenkins as the starters he can develop for a year and simply run go-routes and be a redzone threat as the 3rd WR. I also like taking another WR with one our 4th rd picks since the draft is deep for WRs and the need is there. Safety is rd 3, Brandon Taylor, LSU is the 3rd rated Safety and is rated as a late 2nd rd to early 3rd pick. Maybe a CB like Casey Hayward out of Vanderbilt in rd 4.

The Vikings cannot go through another year without a good vertical WR to stretch the field and allow defenses to flood underneath to choke off the running and short passing. Most wide receivers don’t have an impact in the first year but that doesn’t apply to those drafted in the top five picks since 2003 – Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Braylon Edwards, Calvin Johnson and AJ Green.
