only at the u of m could a coach with a record like Smith be endorsed by the a.d.! ala dan monson & glen mason. When does enough is enough ever happen at minnesota? The last time minnesota won the big 10 outright was when Sid Hartman was in his early 40's!!!

The Gophers basketball team will be a top ten team in the nation next year and will win the Big Ten title (if Trevor comes back). Tubby Smith is a very good coach and the U is smart to keep him.

As long as it makes the buyout cheaper.

Get the Johnson kid on the Twins..

Why not go after Flip, why would we re-sign Tubby he runs no offense, good player after good player has transfered out of the program how does that look to a player you're trying to recruit and last time I checked that is one of the biggest parts of college basketball. Call me crazy but making the nit year in year out should get you fired and the odd year he made the tourney they exited immediately what has he done to deserve this?

Sid says, "It's interesting that, despite two bad years when the Gophers were 12-24 in the Big Ten, Smith was still in demand."**********Sid, it's LSU. If LSU was offering Smith the football head coaching job, that would be news. If Smith is offered an extension shortly, it would demonstrate: 1) that results don't matter to coaching performance; 2) the new AD has no authority; 3) the U can be plied by a coach who entertains every coaching rumor, no matter how inconsequential. I'm going to hope, Sid, that you are wrong on this one.

goldengopher3r is right on! Quit being so naive to think ANY good school is after Tubby. He FAILED at Ky. and is a joke. He created the rumor to get an extension and you believe him??? Ask the many good players who left if Tubby is believable.

Do they not want to win? Why keep Tubby? Next year he will run out of excuses with Trevor back, when they still stink he will be gone.

Besides paying the Tubster more and extending his contract, and building the practice facility...they need to do something with their "Antique Arena." The top notch recruits don't want to play in "Williams Mausoleum" anymore either! I think most people would agree that much of the time in life "you get what you pay for" and there is a price/quality relationship to what you invest.

gildedrodent. See TCF Bank Stadium. Our facilites are not the reason we are not winning. Bad hires by a terrible A.
