Scoggins: A ball or a wall, Willingham makes a dent in it for Twins

There's nothing boring about the way he plays baseball, though. At the plate or in left field.

Just wait until the coaches teach him how to hit the ball to the opposite field and he'll really be good, yah right!

I thought right-handed hitters couldn't hit home runs at Target Field. Wait until it warms up!

Keep the coaches away from him please. If one of the M and M boys would have hit that wall they would have been out the entire season with "Between the Ears" symptoms.

To wndwmkr: Right on brother! The last thing we need is our brilliant hitting coach to teach him to take a bunch of strikes right down the middle. How that guy still has a job is beyond me.....

The Twins are fortunate to have signed Willingham. Hitting 29 homeruns while playing for Oakland is an accomplishment. I agree with Gardy, scoring runs is not going to be the major issue, starting pitching is the key to a decent season.

The best part of Willingham is that he didn't come up through the Twins farm system, meaning his approach at the plate hasn't been completely destroyed. His approach ... see pitch, mash pitch. Unlike the Twins approach, which is ... see pitch, see pitch, see pitch, see pitch, whiff badly at final pitch for strike 3.

Way to go, Hammer. I never thought I'd be happy to see a fly-ball out on occasion. (And we haven't had REALLY good left-field defense in quite a while... Delmon, Kubel, Rondell White.... so nothing lost there). Question: Is Span not hustling to back up some of these plays? Not ripping on him, but the inside-the-park-home-run and the 9th inning double to Torii, he seems WAYY late on getting there to back things up. Like they say about Morneau, are they worried about fatigue messing with his concussion, or was it just an off night?

chet: Span was playing towards right center on that hit to the gap, so it took him a little bit longer to back up the play.

Love the Hammer, but it would be nice to see an occassional catch of a ball like that to left.....
