"It's called the marriage amendment. What this really is about is marriage, and Minnesotans ought to have the right to say what that means to them." No, Gottwalt, an amendment like this isn't saying "what it means to them." It isn't about describing your feelings. It's about making a law that denies the basic human rights of other Minnesotans. Why is this so hard for them to understand?

Obama and the GLBT community are fighting the wrong battle! Government has no business whatsoever sanctioning the religious right and artificial social construct of "marriage." Giving legal and other rights and privileges to a couple, same-sex or heterosexual, simply because they have had some holy joe mumble superstitious incantations over them, totally discriminates against single persons and those that prefer to just cohabit! Instead of working to buy-into this discriminatory, unjust and inequitable practice, the GLBT community should be working to abolish it!

Gottwalt proves over and over again that he is noxious politician who doesn't understand how other people live and the struggles they face. This is why he is happy and even gleeful at the thought of discriminating against them and making their lives harder. Obama is clearly right about this issue. I am thankful that he is willing to speak out against the form of hateful ignorance represented by Gottwalt and his crowd.

Hey Mr. Pres., butt out. It's none of your business. You can't do the job you have. We don't need your input here.

I wonder why is he worrying about what we are doing in Minnesota? He can't do a good enough job with the rest of the country let alone worrying about us here in Minnesota. The ammendment that will be coming up this year has got nothing but letting the country know how we as Minnesotans feel about same sex marriages. I feel that this ammendment will pass and this will enforce the idea that we need as country to go back to those ideals that made this country the one it use to be. A country with pride and honor. A country that holds high moral values and the idea that marriage is between a man and a woman only. It is time to let those special interests groups to finally understand that they hold no water with the people here in the great stae of Minnesota. that we hold ourselves up with the highest morals and values that were held so dearly by our forefathers in this country and state.

Obama is against legalizing gay marriage. What on earth is he doing commenting on it? Oh yeah... pandering.

Obama's Achilles's heel is that most African Americans are opposed to gay marriage and are almost 100% Obama supporters. If he openly backs gay marriage he loses a lot of their support, so instead he plays a game of pandering and double talk.

There are far too many permissions, liablitiies, and benifits that are enhanced, sanctioned, or nullified by the marriage contract to be able to dismiss marriage all togather. Just simple things like the ease of granting access to legal and medical records to a spouse verses what is considered an acquantance. We need to make a church from state destinction in those relationships. There has to be a secular equivalent that is neither sanctioned by the church or draws it's structure from church law but yet allows the permissions, liablities and benefits of marriage.
