Maplewood Mall, which has long played second fiddle to Rosedale, has gotten spiffy upgrades, including lights and windows.

I love the updates they've made, and the mall looks great now. Hopefully they can attract new retailers to fill the space. I definitely will miss Old Navy - Maplewood was my favorite mall for affordable back-to-school shopping, with Old Navy, Kohl's, JC Penney, and Sears all in one place.

I agree, the updates were sorely needed. I've been going there since it opened. I like the fact that I can go to Kohl's, JCP & Barnes & Noble in one place. Too bad Christopher & Banks left. Wouldn't mind seeing Coldwater Creek or something for us 50 year olds. I love the lighting in the central court and they also removed the paint from the windows. Seems to have a better customer base showing up. Now if they just get rid of the mauve trash containers in the food court....

'nother note; since Rosedale has an Apple store, how about Maplewood Mall getting a Microsoft store? The only one I know if is at MOA.

I hadn't been in the Maplewood Mall in probably 30 years. I live in the NW Metro and never get over there. However, just two weekends ago my wife and I happened to be over there and stopped into the mall. I couldn't believe how nice it was. My first thought was that it was nicer than Rosedale (which I probably haven't been inside for at least 25 years).

That's what America needs: more retail space. Go out there and do you your part to boot the economy! Spend till it hurts, baby!

Now if they can just get rid of the wannabe gangbanger punks and other less than ideal clientele that like to "hang out" at the mall...

"If they can just get rid of... less than ideal clientele that like to 'hang out' at the mall." -- There will always be mall rats. Every mall has them, but they really stand out at slow malls. The best way to deal with them is fill the mall with real shoppers, so they blend in if they're not causing trouble, and a decent security staff to boot them if they are.
