A veto? Hmmm, well I guess that means the GOP will have to send yet another item to the voters to avoid that. What a bunch of spineless goons. Seriously. You can't make EVERYTHING a proposed amendment to avoid getting things struck down. If the only voice the GOP legislators are going to accept is the voice of the masses, then we have a SERIOUS problem. The governor exists to check the people's power.
Here's an idea. How about putting the responsibility where it belongs? Pay back the schools right now, and I mean the entire amount. The result is that the state would be in the red, and instead of passing the buck or making idiotic claims to pay back only 1/6 of the amount, the state legislature is going to have to come up with some way to generate this money. Hey, I know, how about electronic gambling for education pay back instead of a stadium? If that all fails, or does not inspire you, then we need to invite the former governor of the state of Minnesota before a committee to testify as to what his plan was to pay back the money. It's the republican way. Bush got us into two wars of choice and sent the economy spiraling towards a crash; gave us NCLB and all these things are to end AFTER he has left office. Pawlenty did what he could for fiscal responsibility, borrowing from schools with no intention to pay it back (he said so after leaving office) and cutting aid to any government lower than the state, which local government is trying to deal with today and generally means higher local taxes, but hey, remember, Pawlenty didn't do it. He left a mess, just like Bush, for others to clean up.
Dayton vetoing a bill, what a shocker.
Pay back the money. Any syrplus should automatically go to repayments before they spend it on something else.
If common sence prevailed Id would be on the ballot.
I can't believe this guy was voted into office, the GOP wants to give the schools back some of their money which is a good thing and he has to throw a wrench in it as usual and of course you libs still find something to whine about.
Lts just raise taxes rather than use monies we already have. That way I can have a new bike path!
K-12 ed is jobs preparation...period....in world economy our kids will compete in. So the repubs AGAIN can't stomach actually paying for something that is necessary and within state constitution. Just keep jacking up local government (school boards) to pay the bill for lack of state funding by borrowing $$$. But corporate tax breaks are good? November can't come fast enough.
Nobody is against paying back the schools. The
reason they are in this mess is because the
legislature has continually borrowed against our future. At some point this has to stop. We have to make a decision whther we want to
keep defunding education based on declining
revenue or increase reenue and invest in the future. You get what you pay for.
Daytons job description. If it is a GOP idea get out the veto pen. It is is a DFL idea and helps the unions get out the pass pen.
