Wild rookies enjoy living the dream

Fourteen rookies have played for the Wild this season, including eight who made their NHL debut. For most of them, getting "the call" was the culmination of a lifelong dream.

Note to Wild Management....STOP DRAFTING UNDERSIZED DEFENSEMEN..they'll get "killed" in the NHL...this is a big man's sport...nobody under 6'1" and 210...please

The top 2 ranked draft eligible defensemen this summer are under 6-1, and 4 of the top 6 are. Nicholas Lidstrom is 192 lbs. and Erik Karlsson, Norris Trophy candidate this year, is 6 ft 180. The Wild should draft the best available player, whether he is 5'11" or 6'2".

Good article, Russo. It just goes to show how deep this game really goes. Next year will hopefully have less call-ups but even more stories with all the new potential talent coming in to the system.

I always enjoy watching an athlete, no matter what the sport, make his/her debut. Many people tend to forget the thousands of hours that are devoted to just that moment. The hours driving, sweating, getting up early on Saturdays. That is what makes the Olympics so compelling. In many cases twenty years or more of ones life is dedicated to one race or one jump or whatever event it is. Some of the best drama is just watching the reaction of the athletes after a .003 of a second or one inch means the difference between winning and losing. To me, the arrival of Zucker is like turning a page in Wild history. I am just really looking forward to the youth infusion coming in to the Wild in the very near future.
