That will teach her to do the right thing. Never trust the police.

A $12,000 tip? She must be a very good waitress...I'm sorry- if you wanted to be dishonest and keep the money you shouldn't have contacted the police in the first place.

This is what you get for being honest. She should have kept her mouth shut, now she will lose this 12k because the cops got greedy and even if she does win the lawsuit, she will have to pay for her lawyer fees, plus also pay Uncle Sam. All the while all she had to do was go home and pay off her bills and never tell a soul that she had that money.

She should have incorporated herself as a 501(c)3 then she could have called it a donation and the police wouldn't have been able to take it.

As crazy as it sounds - she deserves the money. The police said it smelled of drugs and delayed her right to the money from 60 to 90 days - and do not have any evidence it connects to a drug deal or investigation.

Lesson learned, always keep the money, if the owner shows up give it back if not keep it.

Typical police force in America today. Bully and lie to the constituency and then fabricate more lies to cover your gluteus maximus when you do something against the law. Where is the proof this is drug money? Any cash bills in the federal monetary system now have been used in a drug deal at some time or another in the past and has drug spew on it. Give the money to the lady who only did the right thing and now the police department is screwing her

They should let her keep the money. No one has came forward to claim it after 90 days and the cops cant tie it directly to any crime. She is just a waitress trying to support her family, she did the 'right thing' by calling them, but its time to let her keep the reward.
