Time for Wild to tank? No thanks, Yeo says

  • Article by: MICHAEL RUSSO , Star Tribune

The Wild's sudden hot streak isn't helping its draft position, but the coach is adamant that learning how to win is more important.

I know the coach has to say that stuff. It is his job to win after all. It rings hollow though as history shows. Anybody remember the last few games we won at the end of last season and how that dropped our draft position? What did those wins do for the culture? That's the frustrating thing is that we can't fault them for winning but the reality is that it IS to our long term detriment. Of course we've still got some great prospects coming, etc...and we'll get a decent player this year but I think we just want to be rewarded for our suffering like other fans have. Not too much to ask I think.

Apparently Coach Yeo can't remember where he came from, I guess Pitt. got Crosby and Malkin by getting the 10th pick each year. Don't insult the fans intelligent about getting something to cheer for when they cheered for these guys when they were playing like a AHL team, because most of the team was from there.Part of "changing the culture" is moving players that have been here to long, and they at least have started to do that.Next year when the team is formed, no more mulligans for coach Yeo,since he has all the answers for how to change the culture,by winning meaningless games.

Yea that all sounds good coach, but where were you guys a month ago when the wins meant something? I'm not suggesting all out tanking, but at minimum you could bring more Aero's up to see what they got. Certainly there must be more players in Houston you could recall? At least for a final look or for no other reason. Trade bait..If you've recalled all you can maybe were in worse shape than we thought. Meaningless points at this juncture in the season are just that.. Meaningless! This team needed to figure out how to win 2 months ago..Now it's too late! Don't mistake your players for fools, that's how you lose their respect!

Its not about the Wild winning. Get over it everyone. It is more about the playoff bound teams not winning like they should be against the hapless Wild. When it comes to the draft its teams like the CBH and others beaten on this streak, are the ones playing the spoiler role. Not the other way around. The fans who are suffering with this team are those that pay for tickets, whether on a game by game basis, or as STH's. I understand the perception of suffering from the non-paying fan and those who cover the team for the local media, because I feel that way towards the other MN-based pro sports teams. At the same time, I have no skin in the game with those teams, so my attitude is different.

Because Wild will remain mediocre for a long time to come. They will get better when they start finishing in the bottom 3 of the NHL consistently. I hate the Wild.

Do you really think these guys are going to remember they went 6 and 2 or 5 and 3 to end the season? Are they really that fragile that a few meaningless points to end the season are going to get this group to "turn the corner"? I can appreciate you wanting to save your job coach Yeo, but you've had... 76 or so games? to prove yourself and "change the culture". Why now? I sat through 20 plus games of your "culture change" i'm not impressed.. Let the fans have a little fun. God knows we deserve it..

I am glad Meegal is not saying anything about Leddy after watching him play 85% of the game last night.... Coach Yeo is a hockey coach, he can't insult our intelligent Trade 51, the people that can Insult your intelligent in an interview is not giving interviews right now and that is everyone's favorite Uncle, Mister Leo and his sidekick Fletch. They are the boss and they are rocking the cradle not Mister Yeo, I am sure Mister Richards talked back to Fletch and we all see where that got him, so kudos to Mister Yeo for taking care of his family first in the interview with Mister Russo..... I remember the last few games we won last year in April, April and I remember saying to myself that I was ready to put Staubitz on the all star ballot so your right, these are meaningless games.... what about Christenson, the guy comes in and they must have told him hey kid go get your confidence out there we will keep playing you, meanwhile the guy did not work hard nor did he play defense (minus 1000) finally once the Wild are in the cellar they must have talked to him and say you know the team needs you to work hard and play strong in your own end, the points will come..... Colton Gillies, you got rid of him for nothing and once you had injury problems the depth was shabby at best...... The fans have a right to be angry my goodness, 3 years of bad hockey results by the new owner, no excuses

Alright, as Russo has said about 75 times, you cannot just "bring up the kids" and see what they've got. You have a limited number of non-emergency call ups after the trade deadline.

....here is the funny/sad thing about all this ending the year on a good note stuff we here from the Wild...... Next fall when Mr. Russo sticks his recorder in Yeo's face and asks him about the disappointing 2011-2012 season... the quote will go something like this...."Well last year was last year, this is a different year with a different team. We have moved on are complete focused on this season and making the 2012-13 Minnesota Wild the best team it can be."

I think we all know how much we've suffered as fans. Especially here in Minnesota where hockey is in our blood, and we'd all love to see a top end guy come in here and play well but there are points to be made by saying that if we end up with the 4th overall or the 7th overall we'll be in good shape no matter what. This regime has drafted really well. Look at Granlund, he's supposed to be the real deal and he was a 9 overall. We're in a really good spot here. And Yeo may be saying the things he's saying because he's the coach. Don't get me wrong im sure he'd love to have the number 3 overall and get one of the Russian studs but he's also right about winning helping us bring in free agents. They want to see that the Wild can win now despite the injuries that killed us this season. And winning does that, especially now it shows character and determination and promise and it makes Mr. Fletcher's job a lot easier come July 1. Hopefully a strong finish is helpful in convincing a guy like ahemm.. Zach Parise (knock on wood) that the Wild are contenders going into next year.
