State to start hanging traps to detect emerald ash borer

There are now pesticides available that can be used to protect ash trees. Smaller trees (under 12") are treated by pouring a solution around the base of the tree. The treatment must be applied annually. Larger trees must be injected, which is more costly, but the treatment only needs to be repeated every 2-3 years. I have a beautiful ash in my yard that I would really hate to lose so I had it treated last week.

Minneapolis Park Board has identified 30 trees on East River Parkway next to Shriner's Childrens Hospital as being infected & will cut them down. A worker stated that it's a battle that can't be won & the ash tree loss is terrible for the urban forest.
