Dean, very nice article. Mister Yeo is wise to put his foot down and he should demand an explanation from the league as to why no suspension when hits to the head is a hot button and a real crisis in the sport..... This hit demands an explanation, what right does another player have to intentionally fly his elbow making direct contact with another players coconut ?? my suspicion is it has to do with Spurgeons size as to why they call nothing but Yeo needs to demand an explanation...... If they don't listen to Yeos demands just yank his players from the ice and refuse to go out and play, just like the Russians did to the Philadelphia Flyers in the super series in 1976... Look up on the youtube and enter They're Going Home.... It is time for the Wild to put their foot down just like the russians did in 1976 because this is a really sad deal

I want a public explanation for the non-suspension. While the NHL delivers videos explaining suspensions, they offer none of seemingly suspendable hits that aren't called. If the point is greater transparency, Shannahan is failing.

I don't what Shanahan's issue is with the Wild but more than once tree were suspect hits against the Wild and no suspension, whatbmakes this one worse is Tanguay has a history of this, he did the exact same thing to Nicholas Backstrom of the Capitols and he's been out for over 20 games. If there is a history he should be suspended longer than the first time.

Sorry "tree" was supposed to be " there"

Yogi Bear, very solid poster.... Again this does not start with the kid or player unfortunately as Mister Tanguay delivered a blow to Mister Spurgeons coconut probably out of frustration because he is small and is good at avoiding being hit and the Coach, yes the Coach Mister Suter said your letting this guy just sit back there and do what ever he wants, somebody hit the guy for cripes sake and it set the mood for VIOLENCE, heck Mister Suter looked kind of angry to begin with if he is kicking over garbage cans after the game..... Back to the same old story, parents and coaches lose control and so do the kids

The sport has unfortunately devolved. With more equipment has become less respect for opposing players and for the game itself. Not a Wild fan but - as a non- homer hockey fan looking in- what is it about their opposition that thinks they can simply take out Wild players? Bouchard is a fun athlete to watch- seems he got targeted and that other clubs feel comfortable to do it. Spurgeon same story. NHL points to improved equipment and player safety. It is simply an excuse not to change the rules of the game and to not impose sanctions. The game has degenerated to the point where pro basketball was about 5 years ago (and where in some respects it still is)- RULES IN NAME ONLY. You keep taking your Crosbys and to a lesser extent everyone else's better talent off the ice ... you just don't have entertainment anymore. I don't understand MMA so I won't criticze it but, if people want to see violence- spend your dough at MMA and boycott hockey until it becomes hockey again.

And of course Duncan Keith gets 5 games for elbowing Sedin. That tells you exactly why there was no suspension for the hit on Spurgeon. In Shanahan's mind he is not worthy of protecting.

I was hoping for more outrage than the single word "dirty" from Yeo. But I'll take it as a sign that the Wild aren't going to be silent much longer about how awful the Department of Player Safety has been.

i found that funny keith gets 5 for the same hit on sedin... really goes to show what kind of message the NHL is sending. minneg i would agree but the NHL is taking every precaution to protect the crosby, sedins, stamkos etc of the league its all the little guys they dont care about. i watched the oilers hit clutter with an extended knee on what was clearly a dirty play, and watched numerous of our dmen or not big name forwards get hammered into the glass face first and the league does nothing. shannahan resign or make the rules apply to EVERYONE. whats even worse about this is some of these cheap shots have come from players such as tanguay who have a history but the league lets it go.

Duncan Keith was an Olympian, a Norris Trophy and Stanley Cup winner. Seems to me the type of player the NHL would want to protect every bit as much as say a Sedin. CC extended his knee on Rene Bourque, and considering his style of play, you know the finishing checks behind the play stuff, he's likely not to catch any breaks, so quit whining about him.
