"Politicians, stop talking about religion" --------------------------------------- Susan ... Would you mind telling me just who the heck you think you are telling people what they can and can't talk about??? ..... I'm sorry that I couldn't make it any further than the headline, because I started feeling extremely nauseus the minute I read it.

"Like me, nearly 40 percent of Americans are sick of politicians talking about religion, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center. That's the highest number of objections in more than a decade" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Newsflash, Susan .... by your own numbers, the majority of Americans WANT to hear about their candidate's religious attitudes and beliefs. DARN ... there's those statistics again.

"The minority that embraces politicians waxing on about their faith, and churches with a politically tinged gospel, are Santorum's GOP supporters. This isn't surprising" --------------------------------------------------------------- The candidate's religious beliefs are important to most people in this country. The fact that their beliefs irritate you is really irrelevant. How is listening to a candidate's religious views any more difficult than being forced to listen to a liberal candidate's perverted immoral design for destroying America???

I don't mind seeing a Presidential candidate sitting in the pews during a church service, but it's another thing when a large percentage of the footage on TV are of a Presidential candidate speaking from the actual pulpit. That would be you Mr. Santorum.

"DARN ... there's those statistics again." - I'm afraid you need to go back to statistics class. In many public polls there's usually an approval rating and a disapproval rating. Those two will almost never add up to 100% because there's always a fair number of people that are indifferent. I believe it went 40% are sick of it, 30% are for it, leaving 30% that don't care. The wise thing to do would be to relax the religiosity.

I've got it. ... I nominate Susan to be obama's new "Free Speech" Czar. You won't have to be vetted, Susan, because it's not an official cabinet position. What's more, you'll be granted authority over the vetted cabinet secretaries. Just think, you can write all the administrative regulations you want as you effectively restrict any speech at all that makes you uncomfortable, by conducting a complete end-run around Congress, much like your president has done to the Catholic Church on the forced contraception and abortion pill issues.. You have to admit ... it sounds exciting, doesn't it???

"I believe it went 40% are sick of it, 30% are for it, leaving 30% that don't care. The wise thing to do would be to relax the religiosity." -------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay ... then 60% are either in favor of it or have no objection to it.

Gopherfan93 writes: How is listening to a candidate's religious views any more difficult than being forced to listen to a liberal candidate's perverted immoral design for destroying America??? .... As Gopherfan93 makes painfully clear, politicians overly fond of peddling their religious views are primarily interested in demonizing those who don't share them. Bluntly put, religion, as fodder for the campaign trail, is often cynically employed to contrive polarizing wedge issues. Indeed, rather than solving problems, third rate politicians like Santorum have a perverse need to create problems in order to get elected. Happily, such politicians are a dying breed, earning favor with ever-diminishing percentages of the electorate. Perhaps we're finally discovering there is little to gain - and much to lose - in indulging the moral vanities of political scam artists.

No, by all means, cons, keep talking about religion. Awaken the independent voters to the noxiousness of the American Taliban. Insure the GOP achieves a permanent minority status starting in November. Sanctimonious hypocrites is all you cons have left - reap the whirlwind, circle the drain.
